First, the aortic-valve conductance is set so that in normal physiology peak LV pressure equals aortic systolic pressure (no artefactual gradient), while severe aortic stenosis still produces a genuine ~50 mmHg trans-valvular gradient. Second, arterial compliance is fixed rather than re-tuned for each condition, so a failing heart shows a genuinely low stroke volume instead of having it normalised away.
\n
Every one of the 24 conditions was checked against expected ranges for stroke volume, ejection fraction, chamber volumes, aortic pressure, filling pressure and ventriculo-arterial coupling. Chronic volume-overload lesions are modelled with compliant (eccentric) chambers; acute lesions and restrictive or hypertrophic hearts are modelled with stiff chambers. This matches how the ventricle remodels.
\n
Support-device sanity checks: IABP and Impella both reduce pressure–volume area (oxygen demand); Impella raises total output while shrinking the loop; VA-ECMO reproduces the LV-distension paradox (rising PVA); ECPELLA vents that distension.
\n
\n\n
\n
What the model does not do
\n
This is a single left-ventricle model.
